DO is an internationally recognised force in independent film. Their passion, creativity and energy always shines through. Their hands-on approach and attention to detail provides co-producers and partners with maximum on-screen benefit.

WHERE WERE YOU TEN YEARS AGO? Living in Johannesburg with an office in Cape Town. Now the reverse is true. We were filming a feature, Malunde, with Stefanie Sycholt. Ten years later , we have just produced the multi award winning and theatrically produced Themba, again directed and written by Stefanie.
HOW HAVE THINGS CHANGED IN THE LAST DECADE? The world has become a smaller place, more global in terms of content, but there’s less finance and options available for independent film nowadays.
BIGGEST LEARNING CURVE? Working with the IDC and SABC. Understanding the markets our partners operate in and their needs. Taking into account the marketing and distribution requirements.
BIGGEST IMPROVEMENT? The view from our office at The Waterfront. We can step out and view the mountains and the ocean. The dti rebate incentive and Blackberries also get a big thumbs up.
HIGHLIGHT? Producing one of the largest budget television productions at the time – 2003’s Kingdom of Twilight aka Ring of the Niebelungen, which had a vast CGI component with a very large manufacturing demand all in South Africa, from period sets to props to wardrobe to wigs. We dealt with a demanding schedule which required a second unit that continued in the studio after the first unit wrapped, ensuring almost a 24-hour shooting day. The establishment of Table Mountain Motion Picture Studios, which we managed with Nico Dekker for two good and pioneering years. Annual trips to markets and festivals and accolades for meaningful or significant content. Recipient of the Cinema for Peace Honorary Award 2011 for Themba – a boy called Hope.
TEN YEAR GOAL? To make memorable films and be part of a sustainable industry and leaders in the coproduction arena by bringing South African and notable stories to the screen. To create inspiring content and look at new opportunities.
